The American Dream - Freedom

Hello grandchildren – The American Dream - Freedom

I would like to take a minute and discuss the great American dream.  I was actually shocked last week when it was reported that President Biden was starting an investigation into why people were leaving their home countries to move into the United States, legally or not.  Has he not heard of the great American Dream?

According to the article, it appears the president and his researchers were looking towards the ‘two cars and a house’ that many people confuse with the American Dream.  The president’s team’s thought was if we could help make it possible to have material success and abundance in the immigrant’s home countries they would stay home and not migrate across our open southern border.  Material abundance is not the great American Dream, material abundance is just a by-product of the American Dream.

The American Dream is freedom; the freedom to do what you, as a person made in the image of God, want to do.

With the vast regulatory government organizations now existing in the USA, true individual freedom is hard to imagine even here.  But, we are by far the freest country in the world that most people have any chance of living in.  Freedom is a big issue in God’s kingdom also.  He talks about the bondage of sin, once in it we are powerless to get out and we are born into it.  Thus, our dependence on Jesus.  The law, the Old Testament, was written to show that sin is here, the New Testament was written to show that sin has been defeated and we are no longer under the law.  Jesus stated that there are two commandments, love God and love your neighbor.  He said all the laws and prophets are wrapped up in these two simple commandments.  Simple to read and say, but not so simple to live.  Love is hard.

So, this freedom that the American dream is based on is simple, live as God would have you live; be kind, compassionate, and forgiving to your neighbors and God will do the same for you.  Live your life and leave other people live their lives.  Like the truckers in Canada, they are on the road, mostly alone, some are rude, but by and large, they are just there.  And they move all of our stuff around every day.  They are not trying to tell you how to live, and they are riled up now based on these stupid covid mandates, and most of them appear to have their shots, they are not stupid people, they just want to be left alone.  At the other end of the freedom spectrum are the politicians, some are doctors, like Fauci, who want to tell you how to live every aspect of your life.  Often without the consent of people to make laws, they just make mandates.  Men and women who are free to do as they please are creative and make a difference in the world.  We may not appreciate their creativity, but we should not infringe on it, nor should we be required to support it.  Life is simple, do as you want, and let your neighbor alone.  That is my version of the American dream, and it produces prosperity!

Love Grandpap,
